Toy Story 5 Teaser Sets The Beloved Duo Against a Tablet Computer
It has been 30 years since the first Toy Story movie debuted, establishing the animation giant as a major animation studio and introducing audiences to iconic figures like Woody (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now household names.
Coming in 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, providing a brief look into the plot but keeping viewers curious how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Frightens the Toys
The preview shows Bonnie — who inherited the toy collection when he grew up — receiving a brand new plaything, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie gets her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.
Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. However, the toys appear to consider it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it likely will.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
An element the teaser avoids is why Woody is back with his companions in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a new adventure with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), traveling with a fair and helping giveaway items find good homes.
Surely, Pixar will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him show up in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is a little strange, however. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have returned with Woody. And where is Duke Caboom (the star)?
Connections from the Previous Film
Fortunately, some elements are carrying over from the prior film. The last thing Woody did before setting off for his fresh path was pass his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (the voice actor), leaving her as the leader of the toy domain. The clip shows the insignia attached to her shirt.
It is hoped she is still the driving force among the group.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
